I feel that the current immigration law does not need to be changed until we get our borders secure. I think congress should look at not building the wall but getting the man power and technology needed to secure our borders.

Here is what Fred Thompson had to say about Immigration:"We’ve tried the ‘comprehensive’ route before to solve the illegal immigration problem. … Twenty-two years and millions of illegal immigrants later, that comprehensive plan hasn’t done what most Americans wanted it to do — secure America’s borders. Now Washington says the new ‘comprehensive’ plan will solve the problem that the last comprehensive plan didn’t. … We should scrap this ‘comprehensive’ immigration bill and the whole debate until the government can show the American people that we have secured the borders — or at least made great headway.” May 19, Townhall.com

I think is kind of sad that our government has been reduced to selective enforcement of the law. Think about it for a second. We have so many laws on the books that prosecutors have to pick and choose which ones to enforce, resulting in cases such as this where law enforcement has simply ignored the immigration laws for decades. Now we have 12 million people here illegally.

My solution is this: first we take measures to reduce the flow of people across the border. We should improve work documents and the employment verification system to make them more reliable, then hit businesses with large fines for hiring illegals. Once we have lowered the flow of immigrants to about 10% of its current rate, THEN an amnesty would be appropriate. After all, its in all of our best interest to have these people following the law. But FIRST we have to fix the broken system.

Next we need to dramatically simplify our legal code (and tax code). Lets focus on the real crimes and get rid of all of t

PS, keep building the wall and hire more border patrol agents.

Why is Bush reducing border control by pulling out border agents. I just do not understand why Bush can't provide support for shutting down the borders but we can spend an outrageous amount of money overseas. I think the laws are in place to handle illegal immigrants but they have to be enforced.

I like Chip Rogers take on the Amnesty Bill.

Sen. Chip Rogers from Woodstock and his fellow Republican, Rep. John Lunsford from McDonough, who co-chair the Immigration Reform Caucus for the state Senate and House, jointly released a statement decrying the federal immigration reform proposal, writing, “It is our belief that no responsible elected official would even consider the fraud that is being offered as ‘comprehensive reform’ in the U.S. Senate.”

well my husband has be saying for years since he was a teen in the 70's as you all say lock the borders. I think it is great that we have such a diverse county, but I also think that we are allowing to many people into our country. I feel that America will be safer when we close the borders. I wish it could be different, I wish we could as they say just get along. That is sadly not going to happen so we have to protect ourselves and our men.

Our elected officials are derelict in performing the charge given them in the US Constitution. This requirement of the elected government is to Provide for the Common Defense. They have failed to defend our borders (north, south, east, west airports, etc) and should face federal charges for this neglect. It is the fault of every Congress and President since Ronald Regan that we were attacked on 9/11 and the next attack will be on their hands as well. What will it take to make them understand this. If they as the elected representatives of the government do not protect us, the Government itself (we the people) will rise up and do it ourselves. Let us pray that it never has to come to this point.
